The Association of Rural Surgical Practitioners of Nigeria (ARSPON), Oyo State Chapter has successfully carried out a 3-day free surgical outreach for residents of Ibarapa zone in Igbo-Ora, aiming at providing succour and qualitative care to the less privileged.
During the outreach, the team of surgeons performed surgery for 69 individuals including adults and children who suffered from various surgical ailments.
“25 doctors were present, 80 patients registered and 11 of them were disqualified for various medical reasons, and no complication recorded.
“55 were adults; 46 males and nine females; 14 children; 12 males and two females”
The 7th edition which took place at Olugbon Medical Centre between July 14 and July 16 featured free hernia screening and surgery, lump surgery as well as health talks.
Also, a workshop was also organised to improve Medical experts who participated in the exercise.
Speaking on the development, the Olu of Igbo-Ora,HRM Oba Jimoh Titiloye ,thanked the medical Practitioners for their selfless service to humanity, particularly the less privileged who cannot afford to foot the high medical bill for the treatment of their medical conditions.
Speaking during the occasion, the State Chairman, ARSPON, Dr. G.S Ogunsina, said the medical mission has been on track to improve the well-being of the vulnerables at the grassroots, soliciting more support for its sustainability.
The National President of ARSPON, Dr.( Mrs) Oyebola Adekola,ably represented by the National vice President, Dr A.O. Adeoye lauded the gatekeepers who contributed resourcefully towards the success of the outreach,advised medical Practitioners to continue to foster unity and work harmoniously for the progress and success of the association.
“The major objective for the outreach is to assist individuals who lack access to healtcare services for multiple reasons because some persons have underlying ailment and are dying in silence as a result of lack of funds to pay medical bills. We urge all critical stakeholders to support this mission.”
The chairperson of the opening ceremony, Alhaja Modupeola Bajaj (aka Iya Bajaj) ,urged the government at all levels to provide free quality healthcare for the people who could not afford medical bills .
In his remark,the Marketing Manager of Health insurance in Oyo State,Mr. Stephen Dauda ,said the mandate of the agency is to ensure that , health insurance is available and accessible to the residents of the state ,guiding people against patronizing quackery and unauthorized hospitals .
While commending the spirited efforts of the participants,the CMD of Olugbon Medical Centre, Dr. Rasak Olawale Tijani, encouraged the medical Practitioners to continue to build synergies among themselves.
