Following the devastating explosion that rocked Bodija in Ibadan on Tuesday night, a former Commissioner of Finance, Budget and Planning, Bimbo Adekanmbi, paid a visit to the site, on Thursday.
Adekanmbi commended the prompt actions of the Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, followed by the swift response and interventions of the Oyo state government in ensuring that injured residents received prompt medical attention at the University Hospital College (UCH) and other nearby facilities.
He also praised the government’s decision to provide temporary accommodation for the victims at Carlton Gate Hotel and 77 Palm Hotel. He appreciated the pledge by the government to assist those affected.
While assessing the extent of the damage, Hon Bimbo Adekanmbi visited the epicenter of the explosion. He observed and commended the tireless and untiring efforts of Professor Tope Alonge and the entire Recovery Team saying that “they remain on site with Heavy Equipment and Medical Personnel and Security Agents, carrying out the grim task.”
He visited the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Barr Iyiola Oladokun, Niyi Akintola SAN and some other residents whose properties were affected by the blast.
He urged all well-meaning citizens of Oyo State to complement the government’s efforts in the wake of this tragedy, describing the devastation as “huge.”
“This is a time for unity and compassion. The people of Oyo State have faced a terrible tragedy, and it is our responsibility to help each other through this difficult time.
“I call on all those who are able to contribute in whatever way they can, whether it be through financial donations, volunteering their time, or simply offering words of encouragement to those who have lost loved ones or their homes.” He said.
To demonstrate his commitment to supporting the affected community, Adekanmbi made an immediate personal donation of N2.5 million to the Dejo Oyelese Landlord Association.
He also volunteered the usage of his Heavy Earth Moving and Construction Equipment, whenever the Association has a need for it as part of the recovery and reconstruction efforts.
