To help address the issue of multiple taxations which is affecting the smooth running of members’ business in Oyo state, the Ibadan Chamber of commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture, has appealed to the state government led y Engr Seyi Makinde.
In a Nigerian Tribune report, the President of the chamber, Mr Ismaila Alapa, made the plea when he led members of the chamber on a courtesy call on the Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industries, Mr Adebisi Adeniyi, in his office on Monday.
Alapa, noted that the issue of multiple taxations has adversely affected the business operations of members as the financial effect is having a negative impact on the businesses.
He appealed to the state government under the leadership of governor Seyi Makinde, to urgently address the issue in order to cushion the negative effect.
He also mentioned infrastructural development as one of the challenges affecting the growth of businesses across the state.
“Provision of good access roads to rural areas to enhance transportation of agricultural produce is crucial. Also, roads leading to industrial estates like Oluyole Estate where Procter and Gamble, Seven Up and other industries are located should be rehabilitated.
“A lot of fruits such as mango. cashew, banana, plantain and other perishable agriculture products are wasted during the peak period due to lack of storage and processing facilities.
“Government should encourage the establishment of storage facilities and agro-processing industries through Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement.” He said.
While reacting, the Commissioner for Trade, Investment and Industries, Mr Adebisi Adeniyi, promised the team that he would table the requests before the governor while expressing optimism that the state government would act accordingly to address the issues at hand.
