A House of Representatives member, Mr. Saheed Akinade Fijabi, yesterday escaped death by a whisker when hoodlums attacked him at Sabo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Fijabi, representing the Ibadan North-West/South-West in the National Assembly, was rescued by a team of special security outfit in the state, “Operation Burst,” set up by Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
The lawmaker told journalists that the incident occurred between 12.30a.m. and 1a.m. when he was coming from a political meeting.
He said: “Early hours on January 6, 2019, I was coming from a meeting about 12.30a.m. when some hoodlums suddenly blocked me with two branded vehicles at Sabo area of Ibadan. About 10 men with guns and cutlasses alighted and ordered me into a gutter. When I was there, I called my father. They were threatening to kill me. I saw and recognised all of them. I saw my opponent in the forthcoming election who is contesting the same seat and others. When my dad came, they were struggling with him. After then, the Operation Burst men came and rescued me.
“When they saw the security men, they ran away but one of them was arrested. When their vehicles were searched, they saw guns and cutlasses in the branded vehicle. The vehicle is with the policemen now. You can go there to verify.”
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adekunle Ajisebutu, promised to react as soon he was properly briefed.
