A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state, Engineer Muftau Open Salawu has called on the embattled Deputy National Secretary of the party, Victor Giadom to let peace reign and let the party remain focus.
Open Salawu who was a Special Adviser to fomer Governor Abiola Ajimobi also said that Ajimobi is the National Chairman of the party as stated by the party’s constitution and approved by the National Working Committee.
He made this known on Thursday in a release personally signed by him and made available to insideoyo.com in Ibadan, the state capital.
His statement read in part: “Ajimobi is the National Chairman of APC. He was appointed as the Deputy Chairman South on the 17th of March, 2020. According to the Section 14 subsection 3 of the APC constitution that states that, ‘The Deputy National Chairman shall act as the National Chairman in the absence of the National Chairman from his zone’.
“NWC wrote a letter to the South-West to nominate a candidate for the vacant position of the Deputy National Chairman (South) after the position became vacant with the appointment of Otunba Niyi Adebayo as a minister and 5 state from the south nominate His Excellency Senator Abiola Ajimobi and since March 2020 he has been functioning as Deputy Chairman South of APC.
‘For those that are claiming that he was not elected should be recalled that when President Jonathan assumed the position of President of federal Republic of Nigeria after the demise of President Yaradua, Then Governor of Kaduna state in person of Arc Namadi Sambo was nominated and appointed as Vice president.
‘Victor Gaidom should please let peace reign and let the party remain focus at this moment that we have two states elections before us.”
The Ogbomoso-born civil engineer also expressed confidence that the suspended chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole will come back since those that suspended him have left the party.
He said “We are very confident Adams Oshiomhole will come back since people that purportedly suspended him have left the party and remaining exco of his Ward are willing to call him back.
“Pending that action is done His Excellency Senator Abiola Ajimobi is the Acting National Chairman of APC and it was confirmed by the action of NWC yesterday mind you the court only suspended Adams Oshiomhole as an individual not the NWC of the party.”
