The Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP), the Ibadan chapter, on Tuesday, organized a town hall meeting to analyze the way forward on combating flood and likely erosions in Oyo State.
The leadership training with the theme: “Leveraging Town Planing for Sustainable Urban Development in Ibadan and Oyo State”, which was held at the CCII, Oke Aremo , Ibadan had in attendance stakeholders in the sector.
The President-General of the central council of Ibadan Indigenes , Chief Niyi Ajewole said the organization is ready to partner with the town planners to prevent negative occurrences in the sector .
Speaking at the event, the National president of the institution Mr Nathaniel Atiebiji, emphasized the need to create space for water to flow, adding that the only way to creat such space is to plan the city.
He however urged the leaders in government to embrace town planning.
On his part, Mr Olutoyin Ayinde, the immediate Past President of the institute and a former Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development in Lagos State,stressed the importance of planning especially before and during the rains.
