A group, Oyo PDP Concerned Vanguard (OPCV) has raised an alarm that faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde didn’t hold the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, adhoc delegates congress across the state.
OPCV in a statement by its publicity secretary, Mr Ojo Adebayo, on Sunday said the Governor may connive with the committee from Abuja to manipulate the results.
The group urged the leadership of the party to ignore any formulated and manipulated results and allow democratic process to take effect.
OPCV is a group whose some of its members are people the Governor wants to allegedly frustrate their political ambition in the state.
The statement read in part: “We want to use this opportunity to draw the attention of the chairman of the party and leadership of the party in Abuja that faction loyal to Governor Seyi Makinde didn’t hold any congress across the state. This, we know, is against the directive of the party.
“We have reliably gathered that the committee sent from Abuja wants to connive with the Governor to manipulate result without holding any congress. The leadership of the party should kindly disregard this and allow democratic process to take effect.”
Recall that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was supposed to hold ward congresses across the country ahead 2023 general elections on Saturday April 30. The congress was to elect the 3-man Ad-Hoc delegates who shall in turn elect Party candidates.
Findings revealed that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party who had earlier in a statement by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Hon. Debo Ologunagba advised all party leaders, stakeholders and officials to conduct the exercise without imposition or infringement.
According to the statement, the party’s directive is part of the resolution of the NWC at its 552nd meeting on Wednesday, April 27, 2022 in keeping with its resolve to ensure credible, transparent, free and fair processes in the build-up to the 2023 general elections.
The NWC in the statement advised Party leaders, stakeholders and members at all levels to refrain from any form of imposition, infringement and meddlesomeness in the exercise adding that any evidence of infringement and non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act and the Party’s Electoral Guidelines will attract serious consequences including the cancellation of the outcome of such Ad-Hoc Delegate Congresses.
