Immediate past deputy vice-chancellor (academics) of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Nigeria, Prof. Ayobami Salami has been appointed as Vice Chancellor of the Oyo State Technical University, Ibadan.
Salami, who was screened alongside other eminent professors, was said to have been considered after intense evaluations by the screening committee.
Salami, InsideOyo.com recalled would have resumed work as OAU VC but for the various Workers’ Union who protested against his appointment and inauguration.
Professor Salami, an indigene of Ibadan, was formerly the Director, Institute of Ecology and Environmental Studies and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.
The Technical University Ibadan (Tech-U), an initiative of the Oyo State Government, is a newly licensed tertiary institution. It is founded on the principle of unique innovation, research collaboration, exceptional service, integrity, excellence, and the uplifting of human condition. The University is expected to commence full academic activities in September 2017.
A widely-travelled scholar and internationally-sought after environmental consultant, Prof. Salami has had previous teaching and research experience in University of the Gambia, The Gambia; University of Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, Enschede, The Netherlands.
He is married with children. The appointment takes immediate effect.
