Former Oyo State Commissioner for Works, Prof. Raphael Afonja, has returned to the Governor Seyi Makinde’s camp and dumped the All Progressives Congress, APC, ahead of the 2027 general election.
The Ogbomoso-born Professor said he is ready to work with the leaders and members of the Allied People’s Movement, APM to strengthen the party structure .
Afonja made the declaration on Sunday during a meeting with the Chairman of the Oyo State Local Government Service Commission, Bashorun Akinwale Wolekanle, and the Deputy Governor Nominees of the Allied People’s Movement, APM, Engineer Muftau Open Salawu, in Ibadan, the state capital.
The meeting centered on unity, reconciliation, and strategies for mobilising support for the APM across Ogbomoso, Oyo State, and Nigeria at large.
It was gathered that the meeting was later solidify at Governor Seyi Makinde’s residence where Otunba Seye Famojuro hosted the three Ogbomoso sons.
Afonja, who served as Commissioner for Works under the previous administration, said the time had come for progressive-minded leaders to unite and provide credible political leadership for the people.
He stressed the need for cooperation among political actors, adding that his decision to join the APM was driven by the desire to contribute to the development of Ogbomoso and Oyo State.
While reacting, Engineer Open Salawu welcomed the development, expressing confidence that the collaboration among the trio would strengthen the party’s structure and position it for greater success in the coming elections.
