The Oyo State House of Assembly has ordered investigation on the situation at the Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology Satellite Campus in Okeho over lack of government presence and Infrastructure.

The decision to investigate was as a result of the motion presented before the House by the lawmaker representing Kajola state constituency, Hon. Akeem Olawale Mustapha on “Appeal to Improve Infrastructural facilities in Oyo State College of Health Science and Technology Satellite Campus in Okeho for Optimum Service Delivery in the Health Sector” on Tuesday.

The lawmaker called on government to equip the state’s College with necessary infrastructural facilities to make the environment conducive for learning and as well breaching the gap of shortage of manpower particularly in the health sector of the state.

While speaking further on the importance of the motion, Hon. Mustapha revealed that ever since the establishment of the College in 2016, there is no facility or running grant put in place for the smooth operation in the College except the structures donated by Community and Social Development (CSDA) and a philanthropist, Alhaji Moshood Raji Bomodeoku.

He noted that the institution was established in 2016 by the immediate past administration to train health workers in order to meet up with the recommendation of the World Health Organization (WHO).

Hon. Mustapha, who is the Chairman, House Committee on Public Account and Appropriation, said that the Governor Seyi Makinde has performed well in the last two and half years especially in the area of education, however, maintained that there is a lot to be done in terms of infrastructural facilities to upgrade the satellite campus of the College.

He urged the state government to focus on making the permanent site of the College a learning worthy by providing necessary facilities and enabling environment to be able to serve its purpose of training the health workers in the state.

The seconder the the motion, Hon. Bamidele Adeola from Iseyin/Itesiwaju state constituency, described situation in the College as worrisome, appealing to the state government to rise to occasion by addressing challenges confronting the College.

He urged the Speaker, Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin to prevail on the budgetary provision in the ongoing year, 2022 and ensure it is geared towards the upgrading of the infrastructural facilities in the College to prevent it from scraping

While passing the resolutions, Hon. Ogundoyin, charged the House Committee on Health to investigate situation in the institution’s satellite campus in Okeho and report back to the House with comprehensive report.
