The Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) Oyo state branch together with the Oyo state branch of the Association of Private Veterinary Medical Practitioners (APVMP), organised an End of the Year Party 2023 with the theme ‘The 21st Century Veterinarian.’
The event, held on Friday, at the Rotary Club Quarters, Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo state featured distinguished personalities from the veterinary profession.
In his welcome address, the Chairman of the event, Dr Samuel Adeyemi, spoke on the need for unity among veterinarians.
He said: “I appreciate the organisers for bringing us together. Let us unite as veterinary professionals and recognise our pivotal role in society. Our dedication to animal welfare is at the core of our identity, and unity will strengthen our impact.”
The keynote speaker, Professor Temidayo Omobowale, in his address, expressed the need to embrace technology technology and leverage on its be benefits
His words: “The 21st century veterinarian must embrace technology and leverage its benefits to navigate the evolving landscape of our profession. Let us strive for innovation and collaboration to ensure the best care for our animal companions. In this digital era, our role extends beyond traditional boundaries; we are stewards of animal well-being in an interconnected world.
“Identifying the challenges of technology underutilisation in our profession and businesses, it is paramount that we seize the moment and maximize the benefits available to us. The 21st century veterinarian is not just a practitioner but a pioneer, adapting and leading in the face of technological advancements.”
He also charged veterinarians to increase the visibility of their veterinary practice and that of their professional profile online. He added that making good use of the internet to network and share information with other professional colleagues within and outside Nigeria is very essential.
Earlier in his address, the Chairman of NVMA Oyo state branch, Dr John Famoyin, welcome attendees with gratitude, saying, “I’m pleased to see our community gather for this significant event. Collaborative efforts are essential to advancing our noble profession. Together, we can overcome challenges and embrace the opportunities of the 21st century.”
Meanwhile, the National President of NVMA, Dr Moses Arokoyo represented by the National Publicity Secretary of NVMA, Dr Simiat Adeogun expressed that, “Dr Moses Arokoyo is optimistic about the future of veterinary medicine. This event is an evidence to our commitment to excellence. As veterinary professionals, let us continue to push boundaries, advocate for our profession, and ensure the highest standards of care for animals”.
The event featured the presentation of awards to the National President of NVMA, as well as veterinary product and brand presentations.
Dignitaries present included President of APVMP Oyo state branch, Dr Adebayo Awoyele, former Chairmen of NVMA Oyo state branch, former Presidents of APVMP Oyo state branch among others.
