LThe First Lady of Oyo State, Engr. Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde, has called on women across the state to deepen the spirit of giving, strengthen family bonds, and continue championing peaceful communities as the year winds down.

She made the call on Wednesday during the 2025 End-of-the-Year and Christmas Women’s Party held at her office in Ibadan.

The First Lady, represented by the wife of the Deputy Governor, Chief (Mrs.) Ajibola Lawal, described the annual celebration as much more than a social gathering, saying it is “a time to reflect on how far we have come as women, as families, and as a state.”

As part of the event, food items and cash were distributed to women from all 33 local government areas, a gesture aimed at supporting families during the festive season and easing the economic strain experienced by many households.

Mrs. Makinde expressed deep gratitude to Oyo women for their resilience throughout the year, noting that their strength and contributions continue to sustain communities across the state.

“Oyo women have demonstrated resilience in business, public service, agriculture, community building, and in their homes,” she said.

“You are the heartbeat of Oyo State, and your sacrifices keep the wheels of progress turning.”

She further stated that her vision for the women of Oyo State continues to shine as a “beacon of hope, empowerment, and unity,” adding that her office remains committed to creating platforms where women can bond, share experiences, and feel valued.

According to her, Christmas provides a unique opportunity for women to reflect on the blessings of the year while embracing the hope and opportunities that the new year will bring.

“Women have the power to nurture, uplift, and shape future generations,” she said.

“The values we instill in our homes, patience, humility, compassion, discipline, are the same values that shape our communities and our state.”

She emphasised that nation-building begins within households.

“When a family is peaceful, a community becomes peaceful. And when communities are peaceful, the entire state enjoys stability and progress,” she stated.

The First Lady encouraged women to rekindle the true essence of Christmas through generosity and compassion.

“Christmas is not just a celebration; it is a call to love,” she said.

“Let us share what we have, no matter how little with those around us. A simple act of kindness can transform someone’s entire year.”

She extended warm wishes to all families, praying that Christmas brings peace, prosperity, and lasting joy to every home in Oyo State.

Also speaking at the event, the Honourable Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Olayemisi, applauded the First Lady for consistently championing the cause of women and creating platforms that promote unity, gratitude, and sisterhood. She noted that women coming together to share experiences reinforces collective strength.

“This gathering is more than a party; it is a testament to how far we have come and what we can achieve when women stand together,” she said.

The Commissioner commended Oyo women for their remarkable contributions across multiple sectors during the year.

“You are the anchors of your homes, the backbone of your communities, and the heartbeat of our dear state,” she remarked.

She reaffirmed that the Ministry, with continued support from the Governor and the First Lady, would remain dedicated to advancing policies and programmes that ensure safety, dignity, and economic independence for all women.

“We will continue to champion the cause of women and ensure that no woman in Oyo State is left behind,” she assured.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Mrs Oluwayemisi Olowonyo expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her generosity.

“We are truly grateful to Her Excellency for thinking of us this festive season,” she said.

“These gifts will go a long way in supporting our families and bringing joy to our homes. More importantly, it reminds us that women’s efforts are recognised and valued.”
