A member of Elemoso Chieftaincy House of Igbeti, Owolabi Salihu Oyegoke, has called for the urgent intervention of Governor Seyi Makinde to instruct the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Chairperson of Olorunsogo Local Government and the newly installed Onigbeti of Igbeti to suspend the coronation of Fatai Suraju as the New Elemoso of Igbeti.
According to Owolabi, there is a case instituted by him at Oyo State High Court, Kishi Division with suit number HKS/05/2020 against three persons including the Olorunsogo local Government, Igbeti.
He said: “The case is still pending in the above mentioned court but to my dismay, Hon. Commissioner for local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has allegedly issued directives to Chairperson of Olorunsogo local Government Igbeti and Onigbeti to conduct coronation for Fatai Suraju as ‘Chief Elemoso of Igbeti ‘ despite service of all court processes on all of them mentioned above.
“They insisted that they will coronate Suraju on Tuesday, 13th February, 2024.
“I have written a petition through my lawyer to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs and a copy of which was made available to the Oyo State Commissioner of Police”
Owolabi submitted that he should be the new Elemoso of Igbeti based on the established rotation and not yet the turn of Fatai Suraju to become the Elemoso of Igbeti.
He further urged the Governor of Oyo State to warn and stop them from flouting the order of the court and act within the armpit of law.
