The Oyo lawmaker representing Ibadan North Constituency 2, Hon. Adebayo Babajide has charged the Nigerian Police Force and other security agencies to tackle incessant killings and spate of violence among cultist groups in Oyo State.
Adebayo raised a matter of urgent public importance during the legislative plenary in Ibadan on Tuesday, adding that, the unfortunate development has rocked the security fabrics of some parts of the State, generating panic and apprehension in the minds of the citizens.
He noted recently a member of a prominent cult was murdered by another member of a rivalry cult in Ibadan North Local Government, an evident of security lapses within the State.
He said, “This unnecessary killings depict the State negatively on the security scale and also threaten the peaceful atmosphere that heralded the administration of our peace loving Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde and the members of the 9th Oyo State House of Assembly.
“We urged security agencies, Nigeria Police Force, NPF, National Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC and others to intensity efforts towards combating unlawful activities of cultist groups in the State.
“Also, we urged the office and Special Adviser (Security Matters) to put measures in place to deploy officers of the combined security agencies Operation Burst to effect twenty four hours surveillance, with immediate effect to combat the activities of cultists.
“We are ready to work with government agencies and advocacy groups on sensitizing our youths against joining the cult groups because there is a going concern as youths and artisans are joining these violent groups”
