A New Commissioner of Police for Oyo State Command, CP. Joe Nwanchukwu Enwonwu, has assumed office following the recent redeployment of CP. Shina T. Olukolu.
Here’s a brief profile of the new Oyo Commissioner of Police:
- He is an indigene of Onitsha in Onitsha North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
- The CP is an alumnus of the prestigious University of Nigeria Nsukka, Enugu State where he bagged Bsc. in Psychology in 1984.
- CP Enwonwu was appointed into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (POLAC/ Cadet ASP Course 15) on 15/03/1988 and was trained at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex, Kaduna State between 1988- 1989 (18 months).
- On passing out in August 1989, he has served in various capacities as Administrative Officer, Staff Officer Junior/ Inspectorate, Operations officer both at Anambra and Delta States Police Commands as an ASP between 1989 – 1995 (7 years). As a Deputy Superintendent of Police, (DSP), he served at Force CID, Alagbon Close Ikoyi, Lagos, at General Investigation, Failed Banks Enquiry and Anti-Fraud sections between 1995 – 2002. Other appointments held includes but not limited to: 2I/C and later Commander of Squadron, Mopol 2 Lagos, both as SP and CSP between 2002 – 2007; DPOs at Owerenta, Osisioma and Abayi Divisions in Abia State Police Command between 2008 – 2010 (2 years).
- As an Assistant Commissioner of Police, (ACP) between 2008–2016, he was ACP INEC, (FEDOPS) Abuja; the AC Operations Airport FHQ Annex Lagos; and AC OPS in both Delta and Bayelsa States Police Commands. On his elevation to DC rank in 2016, he was Deputy Commissioner of Police, Police College, Oji River; DC CID, Uyo AKwa Ibom; DC Operations Airport Lagos and DC Administration, Rivers State Command, Portharcourt. Sequel to this, he was CP Special Protection Unit, (SPU) Force Headquarters, Abuja until his redeployment to Oyo State Police Command.
- The Commissioner of Police has attended various on-the-job courses during his carrier. These includes: Mopol Conversion Course, 2I/C Squadron at the Police Mobile Training School, Gworza, Maiduguri Bornu State. He equally attended Tactical Command and Strategic Leadership courses at the reputed Police Staff College, Jos, Plateau State.
- The CP due to the wealth of experience acquired over the years, has distinguished himself in all the places he has served. Consequent upon this, he is bringing this wealth of experience to bear in consolidating the existing security Architecture in Oyo State.
The new CP while assuring the people of Oyo State of adequate security, promises quality service delivery and respect for human right while he solicits the support of all and sundry to enable him succeed in his new assignment.
