The Court of Appeal sitting in Ibadan has delivered a judgement affirming the selection and installation of Oba Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomoso.
This decision overturns the October 25, 2023, ruling by Justice K. A. Adedokun of the Oyo State High Court, which nullified Oba Olaoye’s installation due to irregularities in the nomination process.
A three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Yargata Nimpar, resolved all 10 grounds of appeal in favour of Oba Olaoye.
This judgement paves the way for the monarch to continue his reign.
The initial nullification was based on the claim that the selection process did not comply with the provisions of the Soun Chieftaincy Declaration of 1958.
However, the Court of Appeal has now set aside that judgement, reaffirming Oba Olaoye’s position as the Soun of Ogbomoso.
