I join the Fresh Page online newspaper family and the wider journalistic community in celebrating a remarkable individual, Hammed Hamzat, a shining star in the world of journalism.
As he marks another significant year in his life, I honour his resolute dedication to the craft, his unrelenting passion for storytelling, and his unshakeable commitment to ethical journalism.
Hammed’s journey is proof of the power of focus, diligence and perseverance. From his undergraduate days at the University of Ibadan, where he honed his skills as a campus journalist, to his current role as the publisher of Fresh Page, he has consistently demonstrated a remarkable ability to tell the stories that need to be told.
As the first Director of Public Communication of the University of Ibadan, I am proud to have worked with some of the most talented and dedicated campus journalists in the country.
During my tenure, which spanned an impressive ten years, three individuals stood out for their exceptional skills, work ethic and commitment to excellence: Abraham Oladipupo of the University of Ibadan (The Guardian), Sikiru Akinola of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife (The Nation, now the publisher of the Oyo Insight) and Hammed Hamzat of the University of Ibadan (The Nation, now the publisher of the Fresh Page).
These three individuals were instrumental in helping me achieve my goals as the Director, and their contributions to the University’s communication efforts were invaluable.
Their passion for journalism, creativity and dedication to telling the stories of the University community as students writing for the national newspapers were truly inspiring and impressive.
As Hamzat’s mentor, I have had the privilege of watching Hammed grow and evolve as a well-grounded journalist. His humility, kindness and generosity have inspired countless young journalists, and his contributions to the media landscape have been invaluable.
As Hammed celebrates his birthday, I celebrate not only his significant day but also the impact he has had on our community. I celebrate his courage, his resilience and his inflexible commitment to truth and justice. I celebrate the values he embodies: humility, integrity and a passion for excellence.
To Hamzat, I say congratulations! May this birthday mark the beginning of a new chapter in your life, filled with joy, success and fulfillment. May Allah continue to bless you with divine peace, sound fortune and eternal joy. May your latter years be as golden as your exemplary character, MaashaAllah!
