Students across state-owned tertiary institutions in Oyo State, under the aegis of National Association of Nigerian students, NANS, have shut down the state Secretariat over unpaid salaries.
The student who troop out enmasse on Thursday barricaded the road linking to the secretariat with placards chanting solidarity songs.
In a press release on October 13, the Oyo State NANS JCC Chairman, Com. Moronkola Teslim had said the association was protesting to call the attention of the state Government to the closure of state-owned tertiary institutions which has lasted for more than three months.
Staff of the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology, Igboora and Emmanuel Alayande College of Education, Oyo, have been on strike for about four months owing to issues of nonpayment of salary arrears of 17 months, payment of fractional salaries from January 2016 till July 2018, inadequate subvention and poor funding by the state government.
The Oyo state governor said it has given the school management and council the authority to generate revenue and sustain itself.
