The Executive Secretary of National Association of Nigeria Drug Monitoring (NANDRUM) Dr. Christabel Okoye has said that the insurgency, banditry and other criminal activities in the country are results of drug abuse that is rampant among the Nigerian youths.
Dr. Christabel Okoye stated this while participating from Abuja, the nation capital via studio call on RAYPOWER 95.1 FM Ibadan popular current affairs program ‘ Politics Today’.
When asked by the Host of the program; Olayemi Afolabi if drug abuse has any negative effect on the Nigeria economy Dr. Okoye replied said “You are asking me if drug abuse has negative impact on the Nigerian economy, don’t you know all the activities of boko haram, bandits and other criminal activities are as a result of the drug abuse which has reduced country’s capacity to produce adequately.
“So many companies have short down as a result of criminal activities of insurgents that are high on drugs”.
In her own contribution, Oyo/Osun NDLEA Zonal Commander, who was live inside the studio of Raypower 95.1 FM Ibadan between 11am-12noon on Monday, Barr. Obi Josephine Ruth said “the fight against drug abuse is a collective one, parents must be observance of their children while friends must counsel friends that have changed in behavior due to drug.
Responding to a caller who accused NDLEA officials of collecting bribe from drug barons but only after the poor , Barr. Obi Josephine Ruth said ” any officer of the NDLEA caught in a shading deal is usually disciplined base on the offense committed.
When asked if NDELA do charge Drug Abuser to court or place on rehabilitation? The NDLEA Commander said “we do place addicts on counseling and they do come from home”.
