The Allied Peoples’ Movement (APM) Governorship Campaign Council in Oyo State has denied allegations by the All Progressives Congress (APC) that supporters of its governorship candidate, Honourable Bimbo Adekanmbi, vandalised billboards of the APC governorship candidate, Senator Sharafadeen Alli, in Ibadan.
In a statement signed by its Director of Communication/Spokesperson, Yinka Oladoyinbo, on Wednesday, the APM said it has nothing to do with whatever happened to the campaign materials of the APC and should not be dragged into it.
The council described the allegation as falsehood and unfounded, warning the APC and its candidate to desist from linking Adekanmbi and the APM with any act of violence.
“The APC should stop raising unsubstantiated allegations against Hon Bimbo Adekanmbi, a well-known man of peace, who has never been associated with any activity that can lead to the destruction of other people’s properties,” the statement read.
The APM accused the APC of making falsehood a norm in its bid to secure the confidence of the people of Oyo State.
“We want the APC and its handlers to know that no amount of falsehood and unfounded allegations against Adekanmbi and the APM can stop their being defeated at the polls in 2027,” Oladoyinbo said.
The campaign council recalled that a few days ago, the APC allegedly attempted to blame its internal crisis on APM members by claiming some of its leaders were attacked during its engagements.
It also accused the Senator Sharafadeen Alli Campaign Organisation (SSACO) of extending its deceit two days ago when it claimed there was an outbreak of diphtheria in the state, a claim the Oyo State Government has since debunked.
“It is obvious that the APC governorship candidate and his party have no tangible issue and programme with which they can convince the people to vote for them at the polls, hence their resort to deception and blackmail,” the statement added.
The APM said the people who have experienced good governance under Governor Seyi Makinde in the last seven years will not return to the dark era, insisting that continuity is the best option to sustain development in the state.
The council appealed to security operatives to thoroughly investigate the allegation to ascertain its authenticity and expose those behind the act, while urging its members to remain peaceful and go about their electioneering activities without fear.
