Wife of Oyo state Governor, Engr. (Mrs.) Tamunominini Makinde has urged all students in Oyo State, especially those who are preparing to write this year West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) and National Examination Council (NECO) to be focused and ambassadors of the State in their studies by passing the examination in flying colour among their counterpart across the Nation.

Mrs. Makinde made this disclosure during an educational empowerment programme through the payment of WAEC/NECO examination Fees sponsored by Omituntun for Life Foundation in conjunction with Seyi Makinde Touching Lives Group, held at presidential Lodge, Government House, Agodi, Ibadan.

According to her, the motive behind this educational empowerment programme is to empower the children of the downtrodden to have sense of belonging in this administration and help them to actualize their dreams because education is their passport to a brighter future and many higher places on earth “Eko lo n gbe ni de po ola”.

Mrs. Makinde said that this empowerment programme is the first of its kind aside the free and quality education given to all children both in primary and secondary schools in the State under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde and not fewer than 100 students were randomly selected across the State.

She noted that the selected students in the State were being empowered and supported with fund for their WAEC/NECO Examination Fees and compendium materials of past questions for their education to be successful and come out in flying colour in life. ‘We wanted to make it digital but we have a problem in our country where some people may not have access to computer while some will not have access to electricity light, so we made it a hard copy instead of e-copy which will allow students to study well’.

Mrs. Makinde therefore, commended the Seyi Makinde Touching Lives Groups for working behind the scene to make sure the past questions papers that are compiled are real, clean, bold enough and ready for use. Also, they are working on other programme that would benefit more people in the near future.

Earlier in his welcome address, the Honourable Commissioner for Works and Transport, Prof. Dahud Shangodoyin, said that this educational empowerment programme is an important one that complement the effort of His Excellency, Gov. Seyi Makinde on the accelerated development of Oyo State which prioritizes education and youth empowerment, adding that, this programme is well planned initiative and executed through well-meaning individual, non-governmental organizations, donation of cash to direct target, underprevileged youths population of the State that can benefit immensely from the goodwill of individuals towards the current administration.

According to him since May 2019, when His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde assumed the office as the Executive Governor of Oyo State, His administration has engaged in many critical and embattle intervention that has fundamentally reshape the foundation of Oyo State economy, touching the lives of dwellers in the State.

Prof. Sangodoyin noted that we are all living witnesses to the impact of ones in a life time astute and visionary leader His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde delivery to us through capital intensive cross functional public works and infrastructural project, implied job access to business services and development, Health care and welfare policies and project that reduce the occurrence of mobility and mortality rate in the State which includes the construction of primary health care centres in each of 351 electoral wards, quality enhancing and functional programme on education, youth empowering with re-fertilization of stadium, economically rejuvenated concept and project in the agricultural sectors for agribusiness and food security and enhance security of lives and property.

Dignitaries at the event are Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Olubanwo Adeosun, Head of Service, Mrs. Ololade Agboola, Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Rahman Abdul-Roheem, Commissioner for Special Duties, Alhaja Faosat Sanni, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mrs. Christianah Abioye, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Mrs. Aminat Atere, and Former SSA to the Governor on Diaspora, Mrs. Bolanle Sarumi, among others.
