Oyo State gubernatorial candidate of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) in the recently held election in the state, Engr. Oyedele Hakeem Alao (OHA) has cautioned the governor-elect, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde against distractions so as not to loose focus.
This advice came on the heels of the allegation of last minute withdrawal from treasury by the outgoing government of Sen. Abiola Ajimobi made by the incoming ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on the platform of which Makinde contested and won the governorship seat.
The PDP also accused the outgoing government of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state of awarding suspicious contracts.
Engr. Alao in his counsel told the governor-elect to use the period between now and his swearing-in to fine-tune his blueprints so as to be able to hit the ground running immediately after receiving the mantle of governance in the state.
The AD candidate, popularly known as ‘Allow Alao’ said anything short of that would amount to distractions, stressing that there will not be anything hidden from him by the time he gets to the office and by that time, there will be ample opportunity for him to raise questions where and if necessary.
According to him, “the job ahead calls for sober reflections, serious thought and planning rather than engaging in suspicious frivolities of who takes what, when a time will come when not even only the activities of the recent eight years, but those of several years back will be available to the governor for perusal and scrutiny.
“What’s more, immunity of any governor ends with the governor’s tenure and this makes the incumbent governor vulnerable and answerable before court of law for any financial infraction or governance misdemeanor the incoming governor may discover on assumption of office”, he noted.
Engr. Alao urged the governor-elect not to further dissipate energy on issues that may not likely add value to governance in the state, but to remain focused and receptive to good and wise counsel towards rebuilding the state.
