The Chairman of ATISBO local government area of Oyo state, Alhaji Bashir Olumuyiwa Alade has on Monday, led a delegation from the state to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on cross border cooperation between Nigeria Local Government and their Benin counterpart (Boo, Batonu and Yoruba-linguistic areas) in Cotonue, Benin Republic.
The Memorandum of Understanding focuses on the challenges of security and development of the border communities as well as socio cultural and linguistic affiliation.
It aims to promote local cross border cooperation and development, building community resilience and reviving the socio-cultural linkages that existed prior to the colonial partition.
Four local government areas which share border with the Benin Republic are concerned in Oyo state. They are ATISBO, Iwajowa, Itesiwaju and Saki West LGAs.
Other states in Nigeria which have their local government areas represented are Kwara, Kebbi, Ogun, Niger and Lagos.
Alade while speaking shortly after the meeting thanked Governor Seyi Makinde for the opportunity given to them to be present at the signing of the memorandum.
He added that it shows the love the Governor has for local government areas in Oyo state and the development plan.
He urged the communities across Boo, Batonu and Yoruba-linguistic areas to live in harmony to pave the way for development.
