In order to fashion out strategies, properly coordinated to deliver Oyo state for the Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, over 400 support groups have met in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital and appointed and inaugurated the former Minister of Mines and Steel, Elder Wole Oyelese as their grand patron for better coordination.
The inauguration took place on Thursday evening at the Jogor Centre when the Atiku President Support Groups Collegiate, Oyo State Chapter met, which was first of its kind across the 36 states of the Federation.
Also at the inauguration is Engineer Femi Babalola and other party leaders across the 33 local governments of the state.
Speaking with journalists shortly after his inauguration as the Grand Patron of all Atiku Support Groups in Oyo State, Oyelese disclosed that it is necessary for all the groups to come together for better coordination so that the sole aim of all the groups, which is victory for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in 2023 presidential election can be achieved.
The former Minister while urging the representatives of over 400 support groups at the meeting to ensure that Atiku emerge victorious at their units, wards, local governments and the state at large, he also appealed to the general populace of the state to cast their votes for Atiku, who has already have experience in national governance as Vice President for eight years.
He maintained that the major task ahead of them is to ensure that they increase the number of votes for Atiku in 2023 election compare to 2019 number of votes he had in Oyo state.
Elder Oyelese pointed out that the groups will also works for all other candidates of the PDP in Oyo state, from the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and Governor, who also worked for the Presidential candidate of the party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
According to him, “What we are doing here today, is to bring together over 400 support groups Collegiate together, their Coordinators and Secretaries are here and the representatives from Abuja are here to register them.
“The Collegiate groups are all over the country, and it is better and necessary to be coordinated, to be more effective and efficient, and to be better prepared for the task ahead.
“What we are doing today has not been done anywhere in Nigeria, we are Pacesetter, each Coordinator and Secretary of each group are here. We are mobilising heavily for Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Oyo state so that we can increase the baseline of the number of votes he had in 2019.
“And I want to say this, the groups will also work for other candidates of the PDP in Oyo State, right from House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and the Governor, if they also works for the Presidential candidate of the party”.
