A private university in Oyo town, Oyo State, Atiba University, yesterday matriculated 36 pioneering students for 2017/2018 academic sesson, the Nation reports.
They will undergo degree programmes in four faculties.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Sola Ehindero, who spoke at the matriculation, noted that the vision of the institution is to provide education, training and character, to encourage students to search for information motivated by ideology and use of modern ICT.
He said the institution was set up to promote environmental, scientific and technological literacy and ensure a challenging academic environment, to enable students develop a positive attitude towards learning, teaching and research.
Ehindero urged students to show discipline, self-restraint, tolerance, hard work, determination and accommodation to manage the freedom and independence an undergraduate residential education provide.
“You have to be disciplined and budget your time to accommodate your academic and other campus activities,” he noted.
The vice chancellor said: “Remember that you have to reflect on yourself and your home background and ensure that you should justify the trust, confidence and investment your parents make on you.
‘’In some cases, your parents have to loan money and do all sorts of jobs to send you to Atiba University to make sure you realise your academic ambition.
‘’Make sure you pass through Atiba University and Atiba University also passes through you.”
Chairman, Governing Board, Alhaji Abdleraheem Idris, enjoined the students to avoid anything inimical to their academic pursuit.
Facilitator of the institution Dr. James Ojebode hailed the management for ensuring the timely kick-off of the institution.
