ARSPON Brings Hope As Over 100 Oyo Residents Benefit from Free Surgeries

A group of dedicated medical professionals, under the aegis of Association of Rural surgical Practitioners of Nigeria, (Arspon),has successfully completed a three-day free surgical outreach in Oyo Zone, offering vital medical care to residents of Oyo town and its environs who struggle with health conditions and limited access to healthcare.

In her good will message, the President of ARSPON, Prof. Mrs Oyebola Adekola ably represented by the National Secretary, Dr Gafar Amoo said the initiative showcases ARSPON’s commitment to giving back to the community and making a positive impact on the lives of the under privileged individuals who do not have access to qualitative surgical care services.

During the outreach, a team of skilled surgeons carried out life-changing surgeries on over 100 individuals, including adults and children, The patients suffered from various health conditions that required surgical interventions, and the medical team worked tirelessly to provide them with the necessary care.

The surgical outreach took place at Momoh Hospital, Oyo, from October 17 to 19, 2025 where patients had Hernia and Lumps surgeries at no cost. The medical team provided these essential services free of charge, making a significant difference in the lives of those who benefited from the exercise.

The program also featured insightful medical discussions and presentations on trending medical discussions, including the role of Electronic Medical Records in rural surgical practice, research methodology, and leveraging modern technological innovations in rural healthcare.

Other key topics explored were the impacts of new tax laws on rural medical practices and more, providing valuable insights for attendees.

In his remarks, Bishop Ayo Ladigbolu, Chairman of the occasion and representative of the Alaafin of Oyo, urged the Association of Rural Surgical Practitioners of Nigeria to intensify their efforts in supporting the less privileged. He also called on governments at all levels to provide necessary support to medical professionals, partnering with organizations like ARSPON to drive progress.

Ladigbolu further advised young doctors against seeking greener pastures abroad, warning that this trend contributes to brain drain and deprives the nation of much-needed expertise.

The State Chairman of the Association, Dr. G.S Ogunsina,reinstated the organization’s commitment to serving the community through humanitarian work. He said the association plans to perform free surgeries on vulnerable Nigerians to addresses various health issues and enhance healthcare accessibility.
