Oyo State governor and aspirant for ticket of Oyo South senatorial district, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has said he has no anointed candidate for the 2019 governorship ticket of the state.
He made the declaration yesterday in Abuja shortly after his screening ahead of the primary for the Senate fixed for October 3 by the party national working committee.
The governorship primary is expected to hold on 29 September.
It has been alleged that Joseph Tegbe is the anointed choice of Senator Ajimobi for the exalted position.
But addressing newsmen, Governor Ajimobi said all the aspirants for the ticket are eminently qualified to succeed him. He also justified the APC Governors’ Forum preference for indirect primary as against direct option.
He said: “I think we have opted for indirect but more importantly, we have so many people who are eminently qualified aspirants and for me, I have given them free hands, let them talk to all party members. And whoever among them, I am okay. There is none of them who is not eminently qualified.
“I am not God, I don’t anoint. I have no anointed candidate.”
Insideoyo.com had earlier reported that those in the race for the All Progressives Congress, (APC), ticket in Oyo State are former Oyo State governor, Otunba Adebayo Alao Akala, Project Director and Director at Integrated Energy Distribution And Marketing Limited, Dr Olusola Ayandele, legal luminary, Chief Adeniyi Akintola (SAN), immediate past Minister of Communication, Alhaji Adebayo Shittu and former Commissioner for Health, Dr Owolabi Babalola.
Other aspirants are a Senior Partner and Head of the Technology Advisory Services and Markets of KPMG Professional Services in Nigeria, Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe, Commissioner for Health, Dr Azeez Adeduntan and former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, (CBN) Adebayo Adelabu.
