The oldest palace worker of Alaafin of Oyo, Morenikeji Lasisi, popularly known as Baba Keji, is dead.
According to the Punch Newspaper, he died at the age of 120.
Baba Keji, who was regarded as the oldest person in the palace, served three Alaafins before he died on Sunday night.
His death came ten months after the demise of Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III, who he served for 51 years, before he joined his ancestors.
Baba Keji while speaking with newsmen after the demise of Alaafin spoke about his family.
He said: “I am from the Lagbondoko family. I am married with three children but my children do not stay with me in the palace. They live in one of the northern states.”
He also spoke about when he got to the palace and the development of the palace.
His words: “I was four years old when I was brought to the palace. I was held by my left hand and instructed to sit down at a particular place.
“The palace then was not as big as it is now. It was Oba Lamidi Adeyemi III that renovated the palace. He built new structures and modernised the palace.”
