Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi has urged Independent Electoral Commission, INEC in the state to be more efficient in the ongoing continuous voter registration to avoid disenfranchisement of eligible voters.
The governor stated this when he received the Oyo State Resident Electoral Commissioner, INEC, Mr Mutiu Agboke and other senior staff of the commission in his office in Ibadan.
Governor Ajimobi said he was aware of several complaints such as slow pace, long queues, shortage of personnel and non availability of INEC officials at designated locations, from some residents in the state, which has hindered many eligible voters to obtain their permanent voter cards.
He pointed out the need for the commission to engage more personnel to expedite the process, while giving assurance that the state government would support the commission to sensitize the people.
In a remark, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, Mr Mutiu Agboke appealed to the state governor to declare some work free days to enable civil servants obtain their PVCs.
Mr Agboke restated the determination of the commission to ensure credible poll in next year’s general elections.
