When Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, take to the FIFA Goal Project pitch for an Aiteo Cup 2019 round of 32 match against Katsina United today, one man that will be in focus is coach Edith Olumide Agoye.
For the records, the last time both sides met in this competition, then known as Challenge Cup was in 1995, 24 years ago.
It was the final and the venue was the famous National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.
The battle was set, as Shooting Stars, with a hit squad, came into the final, basking in the euphoria of winning the league title that same year.
At the end of the day, a brace from Edith Agoye, separated the two sides and the Oluyole Warriors rode on the northerners to clinch the title, thus emerging double champion that year.
Again, the two teams would be fighting for a ticket to the next round of the same competition, renamed, the Aiteo Cup.
Coach Agoye will be on the sideline this afternoon, passing instructions to his lads, unlike in 1995 when he was on the pitch, receiving instructions.
When reminded of what happened 24 years ago, the soft spoken tactician responded.
“It was a glorious day indeed, not only for me but for the entire team and the people of Oyo State”.
Linking it to today’s game, Eshin, as the gaffer is fondly called said.
” We are going for nothing but victory. We are not under any pressure, our team is in good shape, the boys know what is at stake and they are ready to do the job,” the former Gateway of Abeokuta sweat merchant sounded confidently.
