Ibadan High Chiefs, who are otherwise referred to as the Olubadan-in-counci have disclosed that they advised the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji against the appointment of Chief Iswat Ameringun and former Secretary to the State Government of Oyo, Chief Olayiwola Olakojo as Iyaloja and Maiyegun of Ibadanland respectively.
Ameringun was last week installed Iyaloja following the removal of Chief Labake Lawal whie Olakojo was installed Mayegun instead of former president Olusegun Obasanjo who was said to have conceded the title to the 78-year old politician.
The former Iyaloja had challenged the decision at the state High Court, saying she was still in possession of the certificate issued to her as the Iyaloja.
She also prayed the court to stop Ameringun from parading herself as the Iyaloja, pending the judgment of the court. Joined as co-defendants in the suit were the monarch and the Olubadan-in-Council.
A statement signed by the Otun Olubadan of Ibadan, Barr. Lekan Balogun, and Balogun of Ibadan land, Barr. Owolabi Olakulehin, stated that the Olubadan only used his power to install the new Iyaloja and Mayegun titles.
They added that when the matter came up for discussion at one of the meetings between the Olubadan and the chiefs, he was advised against it.
