The 2019 Governorship Candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Chief Adebayo Adelabu has donated N1.4million as initial palliatives to the victims of the Shasha Market crisis and promised building materials to support the reconstruction of the market.

It will be recalled that the market was destroyed during communal clash between the indigenes and the Hausa community recently.

Chief Adelabu stated this during his visit to the Baale Shasha Chief Akinade Ajani, Sherik Shasha Alhaji Haruna MAI -Yasin Kastina and other leaders in the market.

According to Femi Awogboro, one of his media aides, Chief Bayo Adelabu, was at the popular Shasha Market in Akinyele Local Government to commiserate with the community and stakeholders at the market and to deliver the message of Asiwaju Tinubu of his planned visits to Shasha and Agodi Spare Parts markets.

“I am a thoroughbred Ibadan indigene who knows the importance and economic value of this market, hence the need for this visit and I pledge both financial and moral support towards reconstruction of the market. I have also formally notified the National Leader of All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu about Shasha and Agodi Spare Parts markets, he has promised to visit the two markets personally along with me and I am confidently sure that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu will give generous donation towards their reconstruction”, Adelabu said.

Chief Adelabu charged the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde to give deserved attention to these markets because of their economic and commercial value for the overall development of the state.

However, he pointed that his visit is purely non-political but to support economic development of the state and peaceful co-existence in the state as an indigene and stakeholder.

The former Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria also urged respective leaders in the market and Shasha community at large to embrace dialogue and shun any act that can truncate the peaceful co-existence between Yorubas and Hausas in the Area.

“There’s need to shun violence and embrace peace because it’s only an atmosphere of peace that any meaningful development can thrive”, Adelabu added.

Chief Adelabu prayed to God to give the family of those who lost their lives the fortitude to bear the loss and divine consolation and blessings for those whose properties were destroyed during the crisis.

In their separate remarks, the Baale Shasha Chief Akinade Ajani and Seriki Shasha Alhaji Haruna MAI-Yasin Kastina appreciated Chief Adelabu for deeming it necessary to support the Shasha community over the unfortunate incident that distrupted commercial activities in the market.

The two community leaders lauded the financial guru for his philanthropic gestures and pledges to support reconstruction of the shops at the market.

Some market leaders who spoke at the programme included Babaloja of Shasha, Alhaji Rasheed Popoola; Iyaloja Shasha, Alhaja Mosobaloju who was represented by Alhaja Sikirat Afolabi and Youth Leader in the Market said the visit of Chief Bayo Adelabu to Shasha Market came to them as surprise, especially the donation and his pledge to provide necessary materials to support reconstruction of the shops at the market.

They eulogised Chief Adelabu for tabling the issue of the market before Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu which according to them further demonstrated the kind heartedness of Adelabu while they express their trust and hope in the support of the APC National Leader for the market.

Chief Bayo Adelabu, who is the Agbaakin Parakoyi of Ibadan land was accomplained by dignitaries like Alhaji Wale Sanusi, Hon Gbenga Olaleye Ariba , Senior Chief Wasiu Ajimobi , Hon Kayode Fagunwa, Hon Wale Murphy, Alhaji Hon. Tajudeen Balogun , Hon Iyiola Ambali, Chief Asiwaju, former Vice chairman Akinyele Local Government, Hon Taiwo Ige and Hon Olumide Alli among others.
