Oyo State health commissioner, Dr Azeez Adeduntan has revealed that the political structure of late strongman of Ibadan politics, Alhaji Lamidi Adedibu, has been reabsorbed into the Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, through him.
This is just as Adeduntan, who is a first cousin to the late politician, said he is the best to succeed incumbent Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife trained medical doctor, spoke at a rally held at his Olupoyi Compound, Oja-Oba, Ibadan where hundreds of members of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Social Democratic Party, SDP, Accord and Labour Party, LP,defected to the APC.
According to the governorship hopeful, his ability and experience garnered in politics since 2007 when he joined politics and excellence in his professional career and the need for continuity in government put him at an advantageous position to succeed Ajimobi.
Pointing to the Lagos example of continuity, the cardiovascular surgeon said the state would continue on the path of socioeconomic development as laid down by Ajimobi if he emerges governor in 2019.
Hear him: “Our governor has achieved what other administrations under opposition parties could not achieve in 12 years in the state.”
“Today’s event is to let the whole world know that the late Ibadan politician, Lamidi Adedibu’s political structure in Ile-Olupoyi has been absolved into the APC through me and the leadership of Ajimobi. I’m best to succeed Governor Abiola Ajimobi.”
“Let me say frankly that there is no opposition party in Oja-Oba again. We, the people of Oja-Oba, today have decided to follow the leadership of Ajimobi. We are totally for APC now,’’ he said.
Secretary, Oyo APC, Mr Mojeed Olaoya, assured of fairness and equal opportunities for all defectors.
“We welcome you into the APC. Our party is well structured with great vision. I hope you have all seen the performance of our government in the state and Nigeria.”
“This party is built on a solid foundation that cherishes good governance and service to humanity. I hope you can see Ajimobi’s achievements spread across the state,’’ he said.
APC Chairman, Ibadan South-West Local Government, Mr Aderemi Oni, remarked that the people of the state had experienced good governance under the APC and would never support the return of PDP at every tier of government.
Mr Mojeed Ojo, Femi Alawaye and Sakiru Adekunle, who spoke on behalf of the defectors, said that their decision was based on the reality that Ajimobi has performed very well.
They stated that the opposition parties which they belong in the past were not organised and full of self-centred leaders who did not care about the people.
The defectors also described Adeduntan as a visionary man, saying he would be a worthy successor if given the chance.
