As I reflect on my abortive journey to the Oyo State House of Assembly in 2015, I’m reminded of the crucial role Hon. Mogaji Adigun Hameed, affectionately known as Murphy, played in our campaign.
At the time, our community, Ojoo, was seeking a representative who would adequately voice their interests. Despite being from the same ward and unit zone as the incumbent representative (Hon. Murphy), who was also my brother, we embarked on this journey with determination.
Hon. Murphy’s Impact
During my campaign, I observed Hon. Murphy’s remarkable work in our constituency. Despite being elected on the ANPP platform; he had completed numerous impactful projects across wards 7-12.
His interventions in areas like the plantation in Talontan village, Ori-Odo Ojoo and Sasa markets and refurbishment of schools in Ijaye Orile, Oorogun, Iroko, and Odo Oba demonstrated his commitment to the people.
A Leader of Integrity
What struck me most about Hon. Murphy was his selflessness and neutrality. Despite our familial connection, he offered support and advice to all contestants without bias.
His house became a hub for aspirants from various zones, yet he maintained a level playing field for everyone. Although we lost the primary election narrowly, his integrity and reputation as a leader remained unshaken.
Celebrating a Legacy
When I heard about his installation as the Mogaji of Ado compound family of Ayeye, I wasn’t surprised.
His street credibility, from Ojoo to Iroko, has earned him recognition as a consummate political leader in Akinyele and Oyo State. I join his well-wishers in celebrating this milestone.
