Some members of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, in Oyo State have alleged plan by Governor Abiola Ajimobi to force the executives of the party to endorse imposition of candidates for the May 12th, 2018 local government election in Oyo State.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity, they told insideoyo.com that a meeting has been scheduled for Lafia Hotel tommorrow.
At the meeting, they revealed, all the executive members of the party at the local government level and 5 from each wards would be made to endorse Ajimobi’s plan to impose his loyalists as candidates for the election.
They alleged that the governor, through his loyalists, have compiled the list of the ‘selected’ candidates and would be presented after the meeting.
For long, Ajimobi has been finding it difficult to have his way within the leadership of the party. His efforts to make the party leadership see reason with him failed.
The party leadership, it was learnt, had told the governor that imposing candidates for the election will polarise the party ahead of the 2019 election, adding that every person that obtains nomination form should be made to contest primaries.
Efforts to reach the party spokesperson proved abortive as his two lines were not available as at the time of filing this report.
