Lanre Sarumi, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP for Ibadan North Federal Constituency has revealed some of his plans for his constituents if elected as Lawmaker in the 2023 general elections.
He said his intention was borne out of the drive to empower the people in the twelve wards spread across his constituency.
Sarumi also said that as the representative of the people, he will prioritize women empowerment, youth development, strong educational development, good medicare and quality legislation that will strengthen the security of lives and property in Oyo State.
Speaking in Ibadan on Saturday, Sarumi explained that his empowerment strategy transcends far above distribution of Motorcycles popularly known as Okada, Generators and Deep freezers as being the norms and perennial practice of most Lawmakers saying, he would train his constituents, especially the youths on 21st century problem solving life skills.
“If Canada and United Kingdom have the kind of brain and resources we have in Nigeria, they’ll shut their borders against us . So it’s high time we began to invest in our youths to sharpen their skills in technological advancements so as to develop our nation to the world standard.
“We have understanding of what the people need to be done and if elected, I’ll tap from the opportunities in University of Ibadan community to expose the students as per the needs of employers. I have been an advocate of internship, so, this is going to be a reality if I am elected.” He added
Sarumi, who reeled out his community intervention initiatives in Ibadan North Federal constituency since 2018 said over eight streets had been illuminated with street lights while hundreds of students got free JAMB forms with exra coaching to boost their performances in the examination.
“When I pass through those streets at night,I feel fulfilled, because the security of all and sundry should be our top priority. InitialIy was giving students jamb forms but when I realized it was the high point of my opponent’s gesture, I took it higher by training them on digital skills that will expose them to cutting edge technologies and break even. Universities have been shut down for months now, the incumbent did not say anything about it up till today, I grew up in Ibadan North, I am part of them, and I communicate better, therefore I know their needs ”
The Ibadan-born Software Technology Delivery Consultant has also employed four health workers to boost the workforce of Sabo Healthcare Centre in order to enable the centre function maximally for 24 hours daily.
“The Sabo healthcare center is the most used health facility in the federal constituency with the average at least more than five childbirths per month. Hiring four extra workers for Sabo Healthcare Centre is to enhance their service delivery and enable them render 24 hours service to our constituents.” Sarumi stated.
Sarumi, the House of Representatives hopeful also hinted that he would facilitate soft loans to traders to ease the hardships they face usually face from loan providers who ridicule them whenever they’re unable to meet up with repayment plans attached to the loan .
Sarumi, who is known for his humane disposition to the less privileged, also promised that his Federal Constituency will become the envy of other constituencies if given the opportunity to represent them at the Green Chambers.
On the lingering crisis within the PDP, Sarumi was optimistic that the impasse between the G-5 Governors led by Rivers state governor Barrister Nyeso Wike, and the presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar would not spell doom for all the candidates in Oyo state, saying,it would be resolved before the election.
“Every party has it’s own internal crisis, name it PDP, APC, Labour party, they all have their own fair share of internal crisis.” Sarumi added
