Abiodun Awoleye won a seat to represent Ibadan North state constituency 1 in the Oyo State House of Assembly when luck smiled on him in 2007, under the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party, ANPP,
As a state lawmaker, he was popular among his people.
He was one of the ANPP lawmakers who stood with the governorship candidate of the party, now Governor Abiola Ajmobi, who was seeking redress in court following the declaration of Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala as winner of the 2007 governorship election.
In 2011, he moved to the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, with Ajimobi. He got the ticket of the party to contest the Ibadan North seat in the House of Representatives and he won.
In 2015, his bid to return to Abuja almost hit the rock as he contested against equally strong aspirants. At the heavily-monetised primary election, Awoleye triumphed. He went on to win the general election, for the second term.
Since 2007, Awoleye has been lucky for three consecutive times. What next for him as 2019 draws near? Will he be lucky this time? Will he be returned for the third term? Will his constituents and party men allow third term? Will he consider senatorial or governorship election? Only time will tell.
Though he has been mobilising human and material resources towards achieving his governorship bid, many believe he wants to,’negotiate’ for something poitical.
