No fewer than 200 students from the Faculty of Technology, University of Ibadan (UI), on Friday benefitted from a job fair organised by an education technology company, Brighthat.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the job fair was organised by the company in collaboration with UI.

Speaking at the event, the Founder of Brighthat, Mr Wale Adeyemo, said the fair was to provide opportunities for 200 young university students to acquire relevant work skills and earn extra income while in school.

Adeyemo added that it would also help them to impact their society positively by investing in human capital development in Nigeria.

“BrightHat plans to provide job opportunities for bright post-secondary students in universities and colleges,” he said.

The founder added that such beneficiaries would have passion and potential for teaching, with a view to making a difference in society.

“We will take interested applicants through our four-step assessment and certification process.

“We want to increase the pool of quality tutors that are available to teach learners that can’t afford to pay for the most experienced tutors.

“We also work to improve access to our products in smaller towns and cities in Nigeria and globally,” he said.

Similarly, Dr. Mobilaji Moto, Co-founder of BrightHam, explained that the company worked to provide part-time job opportunities for bright scholars to earn extra income and make a positive difference.

According to him, the tutoring will be done online from any location of the tutors who will not need to travel to where the students are.

He said: “We have assessors who are members of BrightHat’s education team and trained teachers.

“There are science and education faculty association executives to facilitate connection to qualified students and financial partners to finance equipment needed by the scholars to teach.”

Moyo further explained that BrightHat was a global educational technology company that delivered quality online tutoring to learners across various fields.

“We are passionate about increasing access to quality and differentiated education for learners in Nigeria and globally to attain their potential.

“One of the ways to achieve this goal is by providing training, certification and tutoring opportunities to bright scholars in universities.

“This is to increase the pool of quality tutors that are available to teach on our platform,” he said.

The Dean, Faculty of Technology, UI, Prof. Olasebikan Fakolujo, said the programme was apt because it would develop and equip the students while they were in school as done in developed countries.

“It will make them to advance even before they finish school. There are many enterprenuership programmes in UI to encourage students and make them employers of labour”, he said.

One of the students, Mr Korede Omotolola, expressed gratitude to the organisers and said such innovation would help the students build their capacity and impact the knowledge to others.

“This will help us to also be a blessing to society,” he said.
