Many indigenes of Oyo, a 40-minute drive from Ibadan, the state capital, were happy when Governor Abiola Ajimobi announced his intention to site one of the FM stations of the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State, BCOS, in the ancient town.
For many years, indigenes had demanded the establishment of a radio station in the town.
The agitation became intense when Ajimobi’s predecessor- Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala approved the establishment of two radio stations.
Ajilete FM was established in Ogbomoso and Oke-ogun FM in Alaga.
They were, however, happier when the contractor moved to site, demolishing an age-long public library which has ‘assisted’ many indigenes of the town, scattered across the globe, doing well in their various fields.
Few years into the project, the hope of the people have been dashed as “hope of completion is slim,”one of them told insideoyo.com.
Influential indigenes who craved anonymity expressed fear that the government may be unable to complete it, as it has less than two years.
A visit to the project site by insideoyo.com showed that the project may have been abandoned.
The project, it was gathered, has been at lintel stage for more than a year. It was also learnt that the only work that is ongoing on site is the cutting of grass.

In April, this medium had reported how equipment for the station arrived the country. This was after the government secured licence for the station. The indigenes are however worried about the abandonment.
