Member representing Ibadan Northwest/Southwest Federal Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, Hon. Dhikirulahi Adedeji Olajide Odidiomo, has urged Nigerian youth to shun cybercrime and engage in productive ventures using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) ideas.
He gave the advice during a recent visit to his constituency, saying that youths can be self-reliant through ICT without necessarily relying on a white-collar job.
Odidiomo, who just emerged the Chairman, House Committee on ICT and Cyber security, said technology has become the driver of competitiveness in our world today and has redefined productivity and changed the dynamics of production and services.
The lawmaker added that ICT has become the focus globally, adding that youth needs to convert their ICT ideas into business ventures rather than engaging in cybercrime.
“The relentless march of the digital age has propelled Information Technology (I.C.T.) into a realm of unparalleled innovation, revolutionizing industries worldwide. As a new generation of tech-savvy pioneers emerges, the potential for I.C.T. to create a fresh wave of billionaires is undeniable.
“We need to know that, the I.C.T. sector is currently experiencing unprecedented growth, driven by advancements in artificial intelligence, blockchain, cloud computing, and cyber security. Companies worldwide are increasingly harnessing technology to boost efficiency and cater to the digital needs of a global audience.
“There is a need to explore the boundless opportunities within I.T. and advocate for inspiring the younger generation to embrace this dynamic field, unlocking their entrepreneurial spirit, and propelling them towards unprecedented success,” Odidiomo stated.
Speaking further, he maintained that, more than ever, it is vital for the government to prepare her youth for the digital economy and the future of work, saying embracing skills in ICT cannot be over emphasised.
Odidiomo said: “For me, one of the greatest empowerment any youth can get now is practical training and skills in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) to get him or her out of the unemployment market, it is the fastest way to success.
“It is a good thing that I am now the House Committee Chairman on ICT and Cyber security. My committee will continuously work with all stakeholders to periodically set up training that would equip the youths and inculcate in them the spirit of ICT entrepreneurship. Also, I will help them build capacity to develop business plans related to ICT operations.”
