The wife of the Governor of Oyo state, Mrs Tamunominini Makinde has told members of Strong and Able Persons With Disability Association of Nigeria (SAPDAN) that they’re an important part of the society.
Mrs Makinde also told them that they should not allow anyone to trample upon their rights because of their physical conditions.
She said this, on Monday, in Saki, at the 7th Year Anniversary of the Strong and Able Persons with Disability Association of Nigeria (SAPDAN), Saki chapter.
The First Lady said she came under the umbrella of the Omituntutn for Life Foundation to encourage and empower SAPDAN members in Saki.
She admonished them to improve on the skills they have learnt and let the challenges they are currently facing inspire them to do better for themselves.
Fifty people from the association benefitted from the empowerment, with N50,000 and a bag of rice each.
Her words: “I am happy to be here with you as the mother of the day at the 7th anniversary of the Strong and Able persons with Association of Nigeria(SAPDAN). I am here today under the umbrella of the Omituntutn for Life Foundation to encourage and empower the members of SAPDAN, Saki Chapter.
“Physical disability comes in different forms. No matter the form of disability you have, do not be discouraged or feel less about yourself. You are an important part of the society, so do not allow anyone to trample upon your rights because of your physical condition. According to a popular saying, there is an ability in disability. Hence, let your voices be heard wherever you find yourselves in the society.
“I am happy to know that most of you have learnt one skill or the other such as barbing, phone repair etc. ,which is a source of livelihood for you. So I want to admonish you to improve on the skills you have learnt and let the challenges you are facing at the moment inspire you to do better for yourselves.
“The Omituntun for Life Foundation under my leadership will be supporting fifty (50) members of the Strong and Able Persons with Disability Association of Nigeria (SAPDAN), Saki Chapter with a bag of rice and a sum of Fifty thousand Naira (N50,000) each.
“The cash gift and the food item are to empower the members of SAPDAN, so they can take care of themselves and their family members. As per your solicitation, ensure to use the cash gift for your business and family.
“Once again, congratulations to you all on the 7th year anniversary of your association and pray that your association will continue to record great success. I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in advance.”
