As part of activities to commemorate 2019 World AIDS Day, Oyo State Government, through the Agency For The Control of AIDS (OYSACA) has donated educational materials and food items to orphans and vulnerable children in the State.
While presenting gift items to Living Word Mission (LIWOM) Orphanage Ososami in Ibadan, the Chairperson of the Agency who is the Wife of the State governor, Engr. Tamunominini Olufunke Makinde who was represented by the Executive Secretary (OYSACA), Dr. Lanre Abass said the present administration was passionate about the plight of orphans and vulnerable children in the State and gave the assurance of continued support for their welfare.
Not fewer than 300 children from four different homes benefited from the items such as exercise books, writing materials, school bags, mathematical set, diapers, toys among other gift items were presented to the children to support them.
“The present administration will see to the day-to-day care of these special children by providing them with materials needed to make life reasonable for them, their care is paramount to the government and that is why we are here today.
“You have seen the activities of the government in the area of the interest of women and children, those living with Aids or other diseases are given support so they can be seen as part of the society while the orphans are also encouraged to see life as inclusive and as such, give them hope for better tomorrow.”
In his response, the founder of Living Word Mission Orphanage, Ososami Ibadan, Pastor Marcus expressed her appreciation to OYSACA for giving so much concern to the orphans and vulnerable children in the State and for her intention to continue to support and cater for their needy.
Other homes visited during the tour were Love Trust Orphanage, Ikolaba Ibadan, Toras Orphanage, Odo-ona Elewe, Ibadan and PAC Orphanage, Ogbomoso.
In the same vein, in a bid to foster the education agenda of the present administration in the state, OYSACA has reached out to Secondary School students who were outstanding at the quiz competition conducted for secondary schools in the 5 geopolitical zones in the state.
While recognizing Oyo State candidate who featured at the Essay competition organized by the National Agency for the Control of AIDS for 2019 World AIDS Day, Tijesunimi Christianah Adesiyan and six other State-level winners like Ekenne Opeoluwa, Kehinde Olanrewaju, Omolara Joseph, Adeyemo Deborah, Idris Salamat and Obiajulum Grace, were awards and prizes at a symposium organized to appreciate academic excellence during the World AIDS Day Commemoration.
