The member representing Ibarapa East/Ido Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives and Chairman, House Committee on Federal Roads Maintenance Agency (FERMA), Hon. Aderemi Oseni, on Saturday launched the Remi Asoludero Food Bank and Asoludero Market to provide sustainable food support for vulnerable residents and subsidised foodstuffs in Oyo State.
The initiative, according to the lawmaker, is designed to ensure consistent access to food for widows, the elderly, orphans, and persons living with disabilities, while also cushioning the effect of rising food prices through heavily subsidised commodities.
The commissioning ceremony attracted physically challenged persons, religious leaders, community heads, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders who gathered to witness the unveiling of the humanitarian project.
Speaking at the event, Oseni described the initiative as a strategic intervention aimed at tackling hunger and improving the welfare of vulnerable groups across the constituency and beyond.
He said the project represented a shift from occasional assistance to a structured support system that would guarantee sustainability.
“Today marks a transition from occasional help to sustainable impact. The vision is simple: no one in our community should go to bed hungry,” he stressed.
The lawmaker noted that his passion for humanitarian service predated his political career, adding that he had spent more than 15 years impacting lives through the Remi Oseni Foundation.
According to him, the foundation had sponsored postgraduate scholarships, empowered women with skills and funding, supported faith-based organisations, paid medical bills, and provided relief for widows and other vulnerable persons.
Oseni stressed that the food bank initiative was non-political, non-religious, and non-tribal, adding that it was purely designed to serve humanity. He explained that beneficiaries would receive periodic food support based on need, while individuals unable to fend for themselves due to physical challenges might benefit from extended or lifetime assistance.
He further aligned the initiative with the welfare-driven policies of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, expressing optimism that improved economic conditions would complement humanitarian efforts. He also urged the coordinator of the programme to uphold transparency, fairness, and accountability in its implementation.
A beneficiary who spoke on behalf of others, Akinbola Omolola Kasarat, expressed appreciation to the lawmaker, describing the initiative as timely and impactful. She said many struggling families would benefit from the free food support and subsidised market, noting that the programme would ease hardship and restore hope to vulnerable residents. Kasarat also urged other well-meaning individuals to emulate the gesture, assuring that beneficiaries would make judicious use of the opportunity.
Earlier, a leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and former Chairman of the party in Oyo South Senatorial District, Hon. Mojeed Olaoya, commended Oseni for what he described as impressive performance and humanitarian commitment. Olaoya urged other political office holders and well-meaning individuals to emulate the lawmaker’s efforts in improving the living conditions of vulnerable citizens.
