The Oyo State government has vowed that it will continue to give whatever it takes to ensure security of lives and property of its citizenry.
Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde made this known while speaking at the official opening of ultra modern police station built by the residents of Lagelu-Odutola Estates Residents Association, Felele, Ibadan for Felele divisional police station on Saturday.
Governor Makinde, who was represented by the Executive Assistant on Security, Rtd. Commissioner of Police, Sunday Odukoya said security has been one of the agendas of his administration since he came on board and that is the reason why he has invested so much by donating over 200 operational vehicles to security agents in the State.
He added that he initiated security operative code named “Amotekun security network” alongside other south west governors in order to compliment the effort of the police in combating crime.
While appreciating the residents of Lagelu-Odutola Estates for building the police station , Governor Makinde promised to provide some of the equipment the residents requested for that will aid the activities of officers in the said station.
In her remark at the event, the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko who was represented by Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, ACP Gabriel Dibie appreciated the Lagelu-Odutola community for their gesture towards assisting the police in their fight against crime.
While enjoining residents in the State not to harbour criminals in their communities, CP Onadeko called on other individuals and communities to partner with the police like Lagelu-Odutola community did.
Earlier in his welcome address, the former Vice-Chancellor, Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Professor Adeniyi Osuntogun described the decision of the residents in both Lagelu and Odutola housing estates to provide a police station as a step in the right direction.
He added that in order to promote the effectiveness and efficiency of the police officers, there is need to provide some infrastructural support such as patrol vehicles, motor cycles, communication gadgets among others.
The community had earlier specifically commended the Special Adviser to Oyo State Governor on Culture and Tourism, Hon Akeem Ademola Ige for single handedly built a police station for them while he was the Chairman of Ibadan South East local government area.
