As Nigeria continues to face insecurity challenges, a Yoruba Group known as Concerned Yoruba Mothers has called on past and current head of states on the urgent need to address the insecurity challenges facing the country as they are sick of shedding endless tears over their love ones.
Princess Oyeronke Akinlolu made this known while speaking on behalf of the group on Thursday at Jogor Center Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Akinlolu affirmed that the group is strongly advocating for the removal of the 1999 constitution and go back to 1963 constitution.
She said: “We the Concerned Yoruba Mothers representing Nigeria mothers home and
abroad had been observing the bloodshed across the nation especially in. Yorubaland, we vocally say
“Enough is Enough”. We are tired of shedding endless tears due to the death of our men, women and children all over the country especially in Yorubaland.
“The present constitution is not working for us because it can never give us progress, peace and unity. So we strongly advocate for regional
constitution according to the culture and tradition of the people of the region.”
The group also advised Yoruba masses on the need to avoid politicians who have started gearing up for another election without addressing the issues of insecurities, poverty level of the people.
“Our Yoruba leaders don’t love us especially the politicians, early this year,
February to be precise there was a mayhem at Shasha Market, how many of
our governors and legislatures came to sympathize with the state governor
and the people of Ibadan land except Governor Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo
State.”
The group also requested that Elder statesmen from aged 80 above to honorably retire into Council of Yoruba Elders where they can be dishing out advice and guidance not making political decisions.
“We humbly want to use this
medium to request that our Elders should henceforth stop making any political statement on behalf of Yoruba land, they should allow the masses of Yorubaland to take their destiny into their own hand for themselves, their children,
born and unborn generation to come.
“We hereby request our leaders between
the age bracket of 60 – 79to come together in Unity of purpose and give us
a male and a female as leaders which the masses can rally round and see as
“Asoju of Yoruba land”, because they are closer to the “Soro Soke
Generation”.
“We humbly plead with all our
“Igbimo Agba Yoruba”
to stop taking political decision and making political statements on our behalf.”
