The Oyo State government has announced plan to recruit about 7,500 teachers across the State soon.

The newly deployed Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Barrister Olasunkanmi Olaleye stated this on Sunday while featuring on BOTTOMLINE, a political programme on IBR 92.5fm Ibadan.

Giving a breakdown, the Commissioner said primary schools will benefit most as about 5,000 Teachers will be employed by the State government for Basic Education while about 2,500 will be recruited into the secondary schools.

When reminded of the promise made by his predecessor on this development, the Commissioner said “collation of data delayed the State government’s plan till now but in couple of days, adverts will be out for suitable candidates to apply”.

Contrary to the rumour making the round that the State Government has cancelled its free education policy, the Commissioner said “the free education policy of his Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde was well thought-out and so, there is no going back.

“Funding is not a problem because the state government has blocked all leakages in governance hence, this policy of the Government has come to State”.

It might interest you to know that with this free education policy of the Government, School enrolment has increased by eleven percent.

On LAUTECH, Barr Olasunkanmi said the State Government has not given up on its plan to solely own LAUTECH adding that “there was a meeting in this regard with the National Universities Commission about two weeks ago”.

He however vowed that the State government will deal with Principals/Head of Schools that may be out to sabotage the efforts of the State government.
