Oyo state government has enjoined residents of the state to develop passion for acquisition of basic guide lines needed for self care to reduce cases of marternal mortality in the state.
The state commissioner for health, Dr. Bashiru Bello, made the call while playing host to maternal mortality advocacy team on National Guideline on Self – Care for Sexual , Reproductive and Maternal Health In Nigeria at the conference room, ministry of health, Agodi, Secretariat , Ibadan .
Dr. Bello, maintained that governor Seyi Makinde led administration will continually improve health status of the citizen and residents of the state ,admonishing stakeholders in health sector to make quality services delivery their watch word .
He said: ” We appreciate your team for considering our state as second beneficiary state Nationwide .
” Health is one of the pillars of this government and we assure you of enabling environment .
” It is important to pay attention to results, as government,we will continually do our best in reducing the index of maternal mortality in due course ”
The Director, Reproductive Health, Federal Ministry of Health, Dr. Kayode Afolabi, while speaking on the benefits of the project, emphasised the need for citizens to appraise implementation of self – care in various states.
He called for continuous engagement of private facilities in project
execution and access to accurate data for decision making .
Dr. Afolabi, however, sought for government support for the team, with a view to reducing maternal death in the state .
“Self – care is an approach that will enhance universal health coverage and ensure each individual right from family unit to the community aware of certain health conditions”
“This will also enable individuals to contribute in improving their health conditions and sustain various challenges in this regard”
“We are particularly looking at reproductive health, maternal health as well as newborn health.”
“This is because we have very high mortality rates accross the country and we must adopt various strategies to reduce it “
