Members of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ward 2, Ibadan East Local Government held parallel ward Congress on Saturday.
This as younger brother of immediate past governor of Oyo State Senator Isiaq Abiola Ajimobi, Chief Wasiu Ajimobi, appealed to his kinsmen to remain calm and maintain decorum.
According to the Nigerian Tribune, Ajimobi said the address of the venue of the congress was communicated to all members of the party, but he wondered why some people chose to hold another Congress elsewhere.
He spoke at the Cook memorial Baptist Church, Oja’ba, Ibadan where Ibrahim Ishola Adekunle emerged as the chairman, Habib Bankole as the vice chairman and Idowu Daropale secretary.
According to him, the congress was peaceful and calm in his ward, saying: “those having parallel congress should retrace their steps.”
He said; “As you can see, we are having our Ward Congress. You can see people are on the queue to elect their leaders for the next four years. You can see our Congress is going peaceful. Nobody is harrasing anyone and our people are civil.
“I also heard some people are holding parallel Congress somewhere but I will advise them to maintain peace. This is the authentic venue of our Ward Congress. It was pasted at the APC state secretariat that this address is the venue.
“If you see another set of people holding Congress somewhere else, it is illegal. I am sure the national Secretariat will take action against them as stipulated by rules and regulations of our party. I will advise them to come back here and do the needful.”
Reacting to his emergence, the chairman, Ibrahim Ishola Adekunle appreciated people of his ward, urging them to continue supporting the party in winning future elections.
“I am happy and I appreciate the people of our Ward. As far as I am concerned, those behind the so called parallel congress need to be more open to their followers. We are all winners of this congress,” he said.
Meanwhile, Spokesman of the party in the state, Dr. Azeez Olatunde denied a parallel congresses in the state, saying; “it is not true. To the best of my knowledge, there was no parallel congress in Oyo,” he said.
