Towards hitch-free celebration of the 70th anniversary of the University of Ibadan (UI) , two co-chairmen have been appointed as joint arrow heads, just as various activities are being lined up as parts of the platinum jubilee.
The immediate past Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), Prof. Emilolorun Ambrose Aiyelari has been named co-Chairman (Internal), while the National President of University of Ibadan Alumni Association, Dr. Kemmy Emina will also function as co-Chairman (External)
Disclosing this after the meeting of the Committee was the UI Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abel Idowu Olayinka who has also directed the Registrar, Mrs. Olubunmi Faluyi to provide the UI AT 70 Committee a befitting secretariat with all necessary wherewithals to enable the Committee to function effectively.
Already, various programmes including fund raising, anniversary lecture, life-time achievements award, Research and Development Fair, Musical Fair, Children Fanfare among others are being proposed as parts of the celebratory activities.
The Committee is still expecting ideas that can further enrich the anniversary from interested stakeholders including staff and students of the university.
Founded in 1948, UI which is the first and the best Nigerian University will be 70 years in November this year with many of its products making wave across the globe. In fact, there is no continent without UI products leading the way. The products of the University are its pride.
Forty Five percent of all Vice Chancellors in Nigeria are products of the University of Ibadan. The University is expecting its products to come back during this coming 70th anniversary for a flashback and with a view to assisting the institution that made them.
