Following the demonstration of the students of the premier university, University of Ibadan, yesterday, the university management has now suspended the students’ union leaders of the institution and halted all the union-related activities.
While speaking with Premium Times correspondent, Oladeji Olatunji, the university’s Public Relation Officer confirmed that “The Union Executive Council and Students Representatives council have been suspended, all activities of the Union have been suspended too.” but decision did not affect postgraduate students.
Earlier, the university ordered the closure of the school asking the students to vacate before 6pm yesterday. This was in response to the protest which was connected to the reason for change in venue for the Oyo state government’s change media session to mark the sixth anniversary in office scheduled to hold at International Conference Centre in Ibadan. The media session was later rescheduled for the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State due to the students’ demonstration.
In addition, the students mobilized selves for protest on the reason of management’s “insensitivity” over the issues surrounding the release of Student’s ID cards and use of hotplates.
